Workshop on Natural Products and Neurodegenerative Diseases

The Conference with the theme "Development and screening of new beta amyloid peptide inhibitors against Alzheimer's Disease", was held from 25 to 27 June 2015, and was part of the TreatAD - ESAA Program. The coordinator of the project was the Bioanalytical Department of the Goulandris Natural History Museum and the Medical School and Pharmaceutical Department of the University of Athens, Galenica and Malva were also participants to the program. As a possible cause of Alzheimer's Disease is the aggregation of β-amyloid peptide, particular emphasis was given to the evaluation of the anti-amyloid activity of constituents from endemic plants of Greece, such as Olive tree (Olea europaea), Mountain tea (Sideritis) and Saffron (Crocus sativus L.), which could lead to new aggregation inhibitors for the prevention or even treatment of Alzheimer's Disease.
